State Highway 8 between Tekapo and Lake Pukaki in the Mackenzie Country is closed this morning following a truck crash.

An NZTA spokesman said the truck was blocking both lanes at the Tekapo flyover and Tekapo Canal Road intersection.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area or delay their travel while emergency services respond to the scene.

Authorities say an update on the highway’s status will be provided once the road is cleared and safe to reopen.
