After more than ten years as a centre of creativity, support, and connection, the Phillipstown Community Hub will close its doors on 31 March 2026.

The closure follows the Ministry of Education’s decision to begin the disposal process for the land at 39 Nursery Road, where the hub is based.

The Phillipstown Community Centre Charitable Trust said it made the decision to bring this chapter to a close in a respectful and planned way, ensuring the community has time to prepare for the transition.

Since opening in 2013, the Phillipstown Community Hub has become a cornerstone of collaboration in Christchurch’s east. It has employed more than 150 people, hosted thousands of community events, and benefited from over 78,000 hours of volunteer work valued at more than $2 million.

The hub has been home to a wide range of organisations, including the Canterbury Refugee Resettlement Centre, Ōtautahi Creative Spaces, Safe Connections, Linwood Islamic Trust, Purapura Whetu, Kiwi Family Trust, The Green Lab, and Te Puawaitanga ki Ōtautahi Trust.

Chairperson Sudi Dargipour said the focus now is on celebrating the hub’s legacy and ensuring smooth transitions for all involved.

“For more than a decade, the Phillipstown Community Hub has brought people together to share skills, strengthen connections, and support one another,” Dargipour said. “As we prepare for closure in March 2026, we want to honour everything that has been achieved together and the lasting impact this place has had on so many lives.”

The trust said it will continue to work closely with partner organisations and community members in the coming months to recognise the hub’s achievements and plan for what comes next.
