A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Donald Baikie in Greymouth.
Just after midday on Tuesday, police were called to a Chapel Street house, where they found the 67-year-old’s body.
West Coast Area Commander Inspector Jacqui Corner said the teenager was arrested last night and appeared in the Greymouth Youth Court this morning.
Police have completed a scene examination at the address where Mr Baikie was found dead on 30 September.
Inspector Corner said there would still be a police presence in the area as the investigation continued.
“We would like to thank the Greymouth community for their support and cooperation as we work to carry out our enquiries into Mr Baikie’s death,” she said.
As the case is now before the court, police said no further comment would be made.
