A man is in custody after a police vehicle was rammed during a fleeing driver incident in Christchurch this morning.

Police said that at about 10.25am, officers spotted a vehicle with no registration plates travelling at speed on Marshland Road. When police signalled the driver to stop, the vehicle failed to do so and fled.

During the incident a police vehicle was damaged, but no officers were injured.

The vehicle was later found abandoned on Parnwell Street. Following a search of the area, police located a man on Kingsbridge Drive and took him into custody without incident.

Police confirmed a firearm was allegedly located inside the vehicle.
