A new K-pop group has captured international attention after releasing a music video that was partly filmed in Christchurch.

CORTIS, a five-member boy band under BigHit Music, released their single Fashion on Monday and the video has already reached more than one million views in just 12 hours.

The video features scenes on Gloucester Street, along with shots of Tūranga, the Christchurch central library, and a city hotel, which were filmed in June.

The local backdrops are featured alongside stylised dance sequences that are already being shared widely online.

CORTIS is made up of members Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon and Keonho.

Their name stands for “Colour Outside The Lines,” a nod to the group’s focus on creativity and individuality. Unlike many of their peers, the band members are directly involved in writing, choreography and producing their own material.

BigHit Music, the South Korean label behind BTS and TXT, introduced CORTIS as its first new boy group in six years.

Their debut has been heavily promoted as part of the next wave of global K-pop, with emphasis on artistic control and fan connection.

CORTIS officially debuted in August with the single What You Want and recently released their first EP Colour Outside The Lines.

Their Christchurch-shot single Fashion has now propelled them firmly into the international spotlight.
