After three consecutive years as a finalist, Christchurch Huntaway Koozer has finally claimed the crown, winning New Zealand’s Top Office Dog 2025.

A much-loved member of the Airpark Canterbury team, Koozer has become a daily source of comfort and support for staff, winning hearts as much as he has now won titles.

He had twice finished on the podium in previous years before clinching this year’s award, proof that a determined dog, backed by a loyal workplace fan base, can go the distance.

The win comes as part of Frog Recruitment’s national celebration of canine colleagues, which this year marked its tenth anniversary.

His owner, Graeme Harris, said Koozer is far more than an office mascot.

“The first thing the staff ask is, ‘Where’s Koozer?’ He attends all the meetings, and when staff feel stressed or anxious, they cuddle and kiss him. His love is unconditional and non-judgmental. He has this unique ability to draw staff into his presence, creating a deep connection that lifts them away from their current stresses and brings them into a place of calm.”

Koozer attends the office daily without ever taking a sick day. On his days off, he helps out on the farm, often acting as Harris’s “back seat driver” on the quad bike.

Harris refers to Koozer as his “mental health support dog” and credits him with helping him through stressful times.

“He is always present when we hire new staff and lets me know if they are dog-friendly, which is the number one requirement,” Harris said. “If meetings go too long and he goes to his bed for a nap, I know it’s time to wrap up the meeting.

“Koozer and I have never spent a minute apart. He is not just a dog; he is my mental health support, teammate, HR and Recruitment Specialist, Ops Manager, and best friend.”

Frog Recruitment Managing Director Shannon Barlow said this year’s winners show the breadth of impact dogs have at work, from lifting team morale to safeguarding communities.

“Koozer shows us that persistence pays off, he’s been a finalist three years running, loved by his workplace for his ability to calm, support and lift morale. His story is proof that the everyday presence of dogs at work can transform stress into calm and help teams thrive. Boss, meanwhile, represents the extraordinary skills that dogs can contribute in highly specialised roles, supporting investigations and keeping communities safe.

“Together, they reflect the many reasons New Zealanders embrace dogs at work. Our research shows 62% of dog owners would take a pay cut just to have their dog beside them in the office, that’s an extraordinary vote of confidence in the power of canine colleagues. Dogs don’t just improve wellbeing, they strengthen culture, build resilience.
