Residents and businesses across Canterbury are dealing with widespread service disruptions this week, as both internet and electricity outages have affected hundreds of customers.
Meanwhile, Orion, the region’s electricity provider, has also reported a recent power outage affecting 1661 properties in Rolleston, Templeton and Weedons this morning, with an estimated restoration time of 12:41 pm.

Enable Networks, which supplies fibre broadband to the region, confirmed that around 500 connections—approximately 0.3% of its network—have been impacted by an internet outage.
The disruption has affected customers in Christchurch and surrounding areas, with users reporting ongoing connectivity issues to their Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
In a statement to Chris Lynch Media, Enable’s Chief Operations Officer Ed Beattie said the issue has been a top priority for their team and network partners, who have been working around the clock since the outage began.
“We’re aware that some customers are currently experiencing internet issues. We apologise for this disruption and the inconvenience it has caused,” Beattie said. “Our team has identified a fix which was successfully tested overnight, restoring around 30% of the affected services.”
The company plans to roll out the fix to the remaining affected connections throughout the day, with the aim of restoring the majority of services by the end of the day.
“Getting things back up and running is our absolute top priority,” Beattie added. “We will be posting regular updates on our website to keep everyone informed.”
Customers still experiencing issues are advised to report faults directly to their Internet Service Providers.
The dual outages have caused frustration across Canterbury, with many businesses and households disrupted. Authorities recommend staying updated via the official websites of Enable and Orion, and reporting ongoing issues promptly.
