Fordow, one of Iran’s most heavily fortified nuclear sites buried deep within a mountain, has been bombed in a strike reportedly carried out by a United States B-2 stealth bomber armed with a 30,000-pound bunker-buster. The site had long been a challenge for military planners.
The B-2 is one of the few aircraft in the world capable of reaching such fortified underground targets.
CBS said Israel does not possess a bomb of that size or depth capability, making U.S. involvement pivotal in any attempt to destroy Fordow’s infrastructure.
Prior to the strike, some U.S. bombers were reportedly repositioned to Guam.
These aircraft are often stationed in Minnesota and had recently returned to the U.S. following operations targeting the Houthis. The sudden redeployment raised speculation that a major operation was imminent.
Until now, former President Donald Trump had signalled he would wait two weeks before making any significant move. Yet, as of yesterday, European powers including Italy, Germany, and France had been preparing to hold meetings with Iran’s foreign minister, aiming to discuss concerns around the nuclear programme.
Those diplomatic efforts appear to have been overtaken by military action. According to Trump, Fordow has now been destroyed.
However, the extent of the damage and the success of the operation remain unclear. Questions also remain about possible casualties, and whether the mission achieved its strategic objective. Confirmation is expected to come through satellite imagery and analysis from military experts.

“The damage it will suffer will be far greater than any harm Iran will encounter,” Khamenei says in the video.
