A section of State Highway 6 remains closed due to multiple slips and flooding, cutting off a key route between Inangahua and the Lower Buller Gorge.

NZ Transport Agency said SH6 will stay closed from the SH6/SH69 Inangahua Junction to the SH6/SH67 Lower Buller Gorge intersection until further notice.

Motorists are being urged to delay their travel or use alternative routes. The agency said the next update is expected by early evening, or sooner if conditions change.

A previous update issued at 7.50AM Monday said the road had been shut due to worsening weather-related hazards in the area.

A map published by the agency shows a detour route in place, but no timeframe has been provided for when the road is expected to reopen.

Drivers are advised to stay updated and avoid the area.
