Thousands of North Canterbury homes and businesses were affected by a short power cut this afternoon.

Electricity went out at 12.42PM according to Mainpower.

A spokesperson said “Transpower’s Waipara Grid Exit Point substation experienced a fault this afternoon, causing a power outage to 6,368 customers.

Power was restored to most customers within 15 minutes.”
