Motorists are being advised to expect significant delays if travelling today between Christchurch and the West Coast.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said it has closed State Highway 73 between Arthur’s Pass Village and Otira due to vehicle recovery.

The agency is urging motorists to delay their travel or use an alternative route.

The road closed just after 11am.
