The Social Development Ministry says it will visit a Christchurch emergency housing provider where a pregnant woman found bed bugs.
Aroha complained on Tuesday after her partner had bites across his back, after staying at a local motel.
Her aunt, Teresa Sharpe, says the 20-year-old had to ask the manager twice before they got a new room.
She says the motel is being paid for by the Government and the least they can do it keep up their cleaning.
Ms Sharpe says Aroha has learning disabilities and needs additional help.
The Ministry says the supply of public housing is tight across the country.
The Ministry has promised to visit the motel in question, after NewstalkZB’s Christchurch newsroom made contact.
A case manager will be maintaining contact to ensure the motelier addressed the couple’s concerns.
