The Health Minister has finally acknowledged “serious issues” at the Canterbury District Health Board and is sending the Director-General of Health to Christchurch tomorrow.
Seven senior executives have quit the CDHB in recent weeks, with accusations of incompetence and a toxic relationship between the Board and senior staff.
Chris Hipkins says “there are clearly some serious issues that need resolving at Canterbury DHB, particularly following the resignations of so many senior managers.”
“In recent days I have had discussions with the DHB Chair and other senior leaders at the DHB about the road ahead. These are ongoing.”
He said “I’ve also asked the Director-General of Health to visit the Canterbury DHB tomorrow to talk to staff and Board members and report back to me.”
“I want to hear his assessment of the situation on the ground before I make any further comment.”
