One person has died following a boating crash in Okiwi Bay.

Police were called about 7:25 last night after a report of a boat colliding with another boat.

One person died on the way to hospital, and another person was transported to Wairau Hospital in Blenheim in a moderate condition.

Another person was also injured.

Okiwi Bay volunteer fire chief Ian Montgomery says conditions were extremely dark, and the boats collided in the harbour where vessels are moored.

Police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
