An elderly man has been rescued by a neighbour from his burning two-storey house in Parklands this morning.
Emergency services received the call just before 6 AM to the house on Curzon Place.
A resident lives opposite the house and told Newstalk ZB’s Chris Lynch she woke up to a fire alarm and land banging and popping noises.
She said another neighbour carried the elderly man out of the burning house and on to the street.
“It was extremely intense to wake up to and I feel for everyone involved.”
The resident said the elderly person was very upset and was being treated for smoke inhalation.”
She said he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
A St John Ambulance spokesman said the man in a serious condition.
