A police mobile command centre has been set up outside the scene of what’s believed to be a fatal house fire.

One person remains unaccounted for in a fire at the property on Conservators Rd – but police are yet to confirm a death.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at about 7.20pm on Monday night.

Fire and emergency New Zealand southern shift manager Brent Dunn said the house was well ablaze when they arrived.

The rural property, which is down a long driveway, has been completely destroyed, according to Newstalk ZB reporter Amber Allott.

She says a police mobile command centre was set up just after 9AM and police detectives were seen walking up the driveway.

She said the entire interior is blackened.

Fire investigators arrived early this morning and police officers are on the scene cordoning off the driveway with police tape.

Four crews attended the blaze.
