A 63-year-old man is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court this afternoon, following the tyre fire in Amberley.

Police arrested and charged the man with arson last night.

Police say they are not seeking anyone else in relation to the fire, however, enquiries are continuing.

Last year, Amberley home owner Gary Robert Grimmer, 62, was sentenced to nine months supervision, after admitting setting fire to the pile in February, 2018.

His offending was the “combination, of a fruitless battle to get the pile removed from the yard across from his home.”

Police are reassuring the public that they do not believe other areas are at risk.

However, they say if you do see any suspicious behaviour contact police immediately on 111.
