A 7.0 earthquake has struck the Kermadec Islands region.

The US Geological Survey said was more than 10 kilometres deep and occurred at 1.56PM.

Civil Defence New Zealand said there is no tsunami threat to New Zealand following the earthquake in the Southern Kermadec Islands.
