▶️ Cathay Pacific announces its seasonal Christchurch to Hong Kong service

Cathay Pacific has announced the resumption of its seasonal Christchurch to Hong Kong service.

Commencing on 16 December 2023 and running until 29 February 2024, the non-stop flights will operate three times a week, offering travellers seamless connectivity between the two vibrant cities.

Passengers will travel on Cathay Pacific's Airbus A350-900 aircraft and can choose between Economy, Premium Economy, and Business class.

Departing from Christchurch on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the flights will arrive in Hong Kong the same night.

The resumption of the Christchurch to Hong Kong service is expected to deliver a much-needed boost to the Christchurch and South Island regions, particularly benefiting tourism operators, exporters, and individuals seeking to connect with friends and family in Asia, Europe, and beyond.

Cathay Pacific Acting Regional Head of Southwest Pacific, Sandeep Pillay said "Cathay Pacific has been flying to New Zealand for 40 years, and we are proud to be returning to Christchurch.

“Resuming our non-stop Christchurch to Hong Kong service is a significant milestone in the rebuilding of Cathay Pacific's connectivity," said Mr. Pillay.

"The connectivity it will provide from the South Island to Hong Kong and beyond will be a huge boost to the region during the peak summer months. We look forward to welcoming passengers back to experience and enjoy flying with Cathay Pacific."

In addition to fostering travel and tourism, the Christchurch flight is expected to attract visitors eager to explore the scenic wonders of New Zealand's breathtaking South Island, injecting further economic growth into the region during the summer period.

Pillay also hinted at the possibility of increasing capacity on the route should the service prove popular.

By transitioning to the larger A350-1000 aircraft, Cathay Pacific could add an additional 54 seats per flight, further enhancing accessibility and travel options for passengers.

Justin Watson, Chief Executive of Christchurch Airport, welcomed the news of the service and expressed excitement about Cathay Pacific's return.

"This is another vote of confidence in Christchurch, Canterbury, and the wider South Island, both as a visitor destination and a producer of quality, high-value goods.

"It is fantastic news that will have widespread economic benefits – we look forward to seeing the Cathay Pacific tail outside our terminal soon."
