Work is underway to repair and resurface the existing SH1 Waimakariri Bridge lanes.
NZTA says both southbound traffic lanes will shift onto the two new lanes in the middle of the bridge for about 4 weeks.
An NZTA spokeswoman says motorists can expect delays to be about 10 minutes extra on SH1 and 15-20 minutes extra on Tram Road.
To help manage traffic flows on SH1, the Tram Road on-ramp will be closed weekdays over the morning peak (about 5.30am – 9.30am), as this will help to get everyone through quicker.”
“Tram Road will still be open at peak times and there will be Stop/Go at the Main North Road/Tram Road intersection to keep traffic flowing.”
“When the southbound lanes are finished, northbound traffic will be moved over to the new lanes and we will repair the old northbound lanes.”
The spokeswoman said “there has been a bit of confusion about the roadside signs – ‘Expect delays 6am to 10am’ – this is to let people know when to expect delays – not the only times we will be working.”
