Friends of the man allegedly murdered at a flat on Armagh Street have described him as having a “diamond heart.”

32-year-old Faiz Ali died after being fatally injured on Sunday night.

A 38-year-old man, with interim name suppression, has been charged with murder.

A witness told Chris Lynch last night he saw two girls running down the road screaming for help.

The alleged offender was seen getting into a vehicle on Barbadoes Street holding a hammer and wearing a t-shirt covered in blood.

Minutes later, a man fitting the same description was apprehended by police on Moorhouse Avenue.

He was handcuffed behind his back surrounded by police officers.

The store where Mr Ali was the manager of Krazy Price Mart on Tuam Street, was closed today.

A friend who knew Mr Ali and the alleged offender said Mr Ali had a “diamond heart.”

“It was a pleasure knowing Faiz. He always had a lovely smile.”

“The jokes we shared and the fun moments we had together. It is really a sad moment that he has gone.”

He said friends are awaiting his body to be released by police so a traditional ritual can take place.

Radio Apna 990 AM reported Ali had two young children living in Fiji.

His father passed away in Fiji several weeks ago and his mother was trying to coming to terms with his death.

Tributes have also been posted on the store’s Facebook page.

Abe Ozil said “Can’t believe the news, gonna miss Faiz a lot. Such a lovely person, gone too soon. May Allah grant him Jannah. RIP my bro.”

Ash Chandra wrote “our heartfelt condolences to everyone at Krazy Price Mart and to Faiz’s family. May God grant you peace.”

Police earlier said the incident was isolated with “no further risk to the public.”

Cordons remain in place at the intersection of Armagh Street and Barbadoes Street, including part of Armagh Street east of the intersection.
