Hurunui District Council is urging motorists to take care as rain continues.

Several fords and roads have been closed because of surface flooding including Nape Nape Road, which is closed past the last house with no beach access.

Gilberts Road has also been closed.

A council spokesperson said crews are trying to reduce the high sewer pump station levels for sewer plants across the district.

Four sucker trucks have been deployed to help in Cheviot, Hanmer Springs, Waikari, Amberley Beach, Amberley, Leithfield Beach, Leithfield, and Motunau.

Teams are unblocking drains and culverts where possible.

Metservice said expect a further 100 to 150mm of rain on top of what has already fallen.
