Both passes remain open.

NZTA says SH94 Mossburn to Te Anau is now closed for snow removal.

Metservice has issued a strong wind watch for Christchurch, Canterbury Plains, and Canterbury high country.

It says northwest winds may approach severe gale in exposed places.

Metservice says this continues to be a significant weather event.

Strong winds could make driving hazardous, especially for high sided vehicles and motorcycles.

Meanwhile, a heavy snow watch is in force for Otago, Westland north of Arthur’s Pass, Buller and Nelson west of Motueka.
