Emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash on Tekapo-Twizel Road (State Highway 8) in the Mackenzie District.

It’s understood a car has crashed into a tree.

A police spokesperson said the crash was reported around 6.50pm.

Initial reports indicate one person has sustained serious injuries.

Ambulance and fire appliances are on the scene.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays.
