A woman who was first on the scene to a stolen car crash has described chaotic scenes following the incident early this morning.
Police received a report of a crash on Cottonwood Street in Parklands about 4.10am this morning, where a car struck a parked car.
Parklands resident Em told Chris Lynch Media she had only just got home a couple of minutes before hearing a loud crash nearby her house.
“I immediately ran down my drive as I had a feeling it was a crash, so wanted to make sure nobody was hurt.”
Em says in the confusion, she originally ran in the wrong direction.
“But when I came back more people were on the corner so I went and spoke to them.
“And then two young boys, who look to be aged between 12 and 16 years old, ran right past me, a group tried to chase them and see where they went.
“I left them and went to the crash site where I found a white car which they stole with the keys still in, which had obviously hit the red car parked on the side of the road.
Em says she then spoke with the girl whose car it was that was damaged.
“The girl told me she only had a little bit left to pay off on the car, but now it’s completely munted.”
“The K-9 unit was then in action to try find the culprits, but I’m not sure if they did.”
Police said they are making further enquiries.
The incident follows an increase of car damage and thefts in Parklands, with one resident telling Chris Lynch Media crime in the suburb is as bad as she’s seen in her 11 years of living there.
