A Christchurch identity affectionately known as “Radio Ron” has not been injured, despite reports on social media.
Christchurch community Facebook pages blew up today with reports that Radio Ron, whose real name is John Truman was attacked and had his radio stolen.
Hundreds of concerned Christchurch residents flooded Chris Lynch’s inbox with offers of money and donations.
A security guard based at Riccarton, who first raised the alarm, said John relayed the story to him.
However, John’s carer told Chris Lynch this evening the story is untrue.
“Needless to say the whole thing is a fabrication.”
He said John arrived home slightly late this afternoon, carrying three radios and plenty of snacks.

He said “people have been very kind giving him things all day long.”
The carer said he has given John a thorough examination and he’s absolutely fine.
He said John’s sister received dozens of text messages and calls and was expected to put out a statement on one of his Facebook fan pages tonight.
“There are no witnesses, no police complaint either.”
He did say John was attacked last year, but is in good health.
Christchurch police told Chris Lynch they had not received any complaint today.
