A large scrub fire at Pines Beach is keeping firefighters from across the Canterbury busy.
Resident David Sargeant told Chris Lynch he’s been told to evacuate his home.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said 18 crews and 3 helicopters are working to get this fire under control.
“The fire has been threatening some nearby houses, but at this stage there are no reports of damage to these residential homes.”
“A number of properties have been evacuated in the immediate area as a precaution.”

At least nine fire appliances are at the scene of the blaze which has destroyed two sheds.

A resident said the fire was threatening homes, but firefighters have done an “outstanding job” keeping the fire away.
Another resident said three helicopters were tackling the fire.
