One person has died following a crash between a car and van in Selwyn last night.

Police say the accident happened on Main South Road in Selwyn at 11.30pm.

Two people are in a serious condition in hospital.

Another occupant of one of the vehicles sustained minor injuries.

The Serious Crash Unit is examining the scene.

Police inquiries are continuing.
