Seven people have had a lucky escape after the boat they were on caught fire in Lyttelton Harbour.

A police spokeswoman said emergency services received a report around 12:45pm that a launch was on fire near Quail Island.

Fire and Emergency responded with the help of a Coastguard vessel.

None of the seven people on the boat were injured, and it’s understood that jumped off the boat to safety.
