Parklands resident says Travis Wetlands car park has become a crime magnet for youth offenders.
Residents in Parklands are urging the council to install security cameras following an increase in youth crime.
Locals say they have seen an increase in youth offending over the past six months and something needs to be done.
Resident Grant Donnell told Chris Lynch “initially it seemed to be minor issues such as the odd mouthful of abuse. “
“This has escalated over time. Now young locals are being approached by youth offenders, normally while alone, but some victims have been in groups of four girls.”
“Offenders have demanded money, food, and have snatched & broken phones and stolen bikes.”
“Th popular walking track in Travis Wetlands has been targeted, with car windows smashed and items stolen while owners were exercising.”
“We hope cameras will identify the people involved and potentially put a stop to this crime.”
Mr Donnell said police asked for crime prevention cameras six months ago but the council declined the request.
A community meeting is being held next month to address residents’ concerns.
Residents can also sign on online petition urging council to install security cameras.
