A person has been taken to hospital in a moderate condition following a crash in Dunsandel.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash involving a caravan at 5.15PM on Stage Highway One.

A St John spokesperson said eight vehicles attended the incident.

Six patients were treated at the scene and one person was transported to Christchurch Hospital.

NZTA said State Highway One was closed near Fraser Road intersection.
