A West Melton family say their beloved cat will need to have her leg amputated after she was shot last week.

Skye, who has been part of the family for almost three years, was rushed to the vet on Friday after initially appearing to have a broken leg.

X-rays revealed pellets lodged in her body, and vets confirmed amputation was the only way to save her life.

“She’s gentle, affectionate, and always the first to greet us at the door with her big green eyes and soft purrs,” the family said.

“The injury is severe, and after consulting with vets, the only way to save her is to amputate her leg. It’s heartbreaking, but we know that with proper care and support, Skye can adapt and still live a full, happy life.”

“She’s still so young, not even three years old, and she’s now facing the challenge of navigating a new life on three legs,” they said.

“She’s already trying to adjust, showing us just how resilient she really is. If you can give a little, you’ll be helping a lot. And if you can’t donate right now, please consider sharing Skye’s story.”

The family told chrislynchmedia.com they know who’s responsible.

Police were called to the property on Friday.

They are also looking into damage to the family’s home.

“We live in a rural lifestyle block in West Melton so pets and animals are the norm out here, but not for this particular man,” the family said.

A Givealittle page, Help Skye Heal – Support Her Life Saving Surgery, has been set up and funds will be used to cover the cost of vet visits and surgery.
