Bad weather has forced the cancellation of the Christchurch Christmas Parade.

Attractions and amusement rides were due to start at 11AM with the parade starting at 2pm at the Canterbury Showgrounds.

The parade was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The owner of one of the events companies helping out on Sunday, told Chris Lynch Media the event got cancelled just before it was about to start.

“All the floats were driving in and customers started showing up. I feel really sorry for everyone involved”

Another organiser said the showgrounds were “pretty much flooded.”
