Heartbroken owners of a Christchurch cafe are pleading for the safe return of their beloved rabbit after he was taken from the premises in broad daylight.

Snowball, was stolen from Mint Cafe on Wairakei Road in Bryndwr just after 3.36pm on Tuesday.

Cafe Mint owner Angeline Wang said her family was devastated and described Snowball as a member of the family and a much loved part of the local community.

“Snowball is more than just a rabbit. He is our child,” she said. “We rescued him 4 years ago and he has brought so much joy to our customers and the wider community.”

Snowball is described as a timid Netherland Dwarf rabbit with a white coat, red eyes, and light grey ears, nose, and tail. Angeline said he was very clingy and easily frightened, particularly around strangers.

She made a direct plea to the person responsible, asking for Snowball to be returned safely.

“We beg you, please do not hurt or abandon him,” she said.

“He is terrified of strangers. If you have a heart, please bring him back to the cafe. We just want him home safe, no questions asked.”

Angeline said the family was anxiously waiting for Snowball’s return.

“His favourite cherries, bananas, and clover are ready. His bed is turned down. Please come back to us,” she said.

The cafe has asked anyone who recognises the person involved or has information about Snowball’s whereabouts to contact them directly.
