The driver of a van which crashed onto its side had a lucky escape in Christchurch this morning.

A police spokesperson said the two vehicle crash happened at the intersection of Wordsworth Street and Colombo Street about 7am.

Traffic was disrupted while the scene was cleared, and a towing contractor was called to remove the vehicle.

A St John spokesman said an ambulance was sent to the scene, but crews were not required to treat or assess anyone.

The intersection was closed by police, but has since reopened.
