Police are supporting the family of an 81-year-old Christchurch woman who was found yesterday after four days missing.
Valerie Hargrave remains in hospital receiving care, surrounded by her family.
“Our thoughts are with Valerie and her family as she recovers,” Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said.
The family has asked for privacy and requested that no further calls or door knocks are made.
Police said any further comment from the family would be made through them when appropriate.
Valerie was reported missing on Saturday, prompting an extensive search.
Police carried out detailed enquiries, including an initial search and a review of hours of CCTV and traffic camera footage, which identified an area of interest.
Baillie said around 30 staff were deployed for a grid search, and Valerie was found lying in long grass on Tunnel Road, SH74, between the walking track and the road.
It is not yet known how long she had been there, and enquiries into her movements are ongoing.
Baillie said local businesses had been instrumental, recognising Valerie as a regular in the area and helping confirm sightings.
Police thanked the public and local businesses for their help, and again asked that the family’s request for privacy be respected.
