Police are appealing for information after an unattended kayak was found floating upside down on Lake Te Anau late Tuesday afternoon.

The red and white kayak was discovered alongside a paddle, a stainless steel flask, and some fishing tackle.

Police said they hope the kayaker managed to make it ashore safely and returned home without notifying anyone of the incident.

They are urging anyone who recognises the kayak or knows someone who has not returned home from a fishing trip on Lake Te Anau to get in touch with them.
