A person has died following a crash on State Highway 7 in Culverden, Hurunui, this afternoon.

The single vehicle crash, where it appears a truck has struck a tree, was reported to Police around midday.

Police said the driver of the truck, who was the only person in the vehicle, was found deceased at the scene.

The road remained closed while the Serious Crash Unit completed a scene examination.

Police said enquiries were under way into the circumstances of the crash.
