Three people have been rushed to hospital following a serious crash in Fernside in Waimakariri.

Police were alerted to the three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Plaskett Road and Oxford Road at about 3.55pm.

A local resident said one vehicle ran a stop sign hitting another vehicle towing a horse float and described the intersection as “terrible.”

A police spokesperson said initial indications are injuries have been sustained.

A St John spokeswoman said one person has serious injuries, while two have sustained moderate injuries.

The road is closed and motorists are asked to avoid the area and instead travel via Lehmans Road though to Johns Road and Mount Thomas Road.
