Terrifying moment truck rams cyclist off road on St Asaph Street

Video footage has emerged of a truck driver ramming a cycling off the road while driving along St Asaph Street in central Christchurch.

The incident happened on August the 2nd.

The video shows the truck driving dangerously close to the cyclist.

Moments later the video shows the truck ramming into the cyclist forcing the cyclist off the road.

The video was posted to UpRide Facebook page and has been shared on Australian and New Zealand cycling Facebook pages.

The original poster of the video said “the important thing to note while watching is that the road they were on has a 30km/h speed limit, and the rider was doing 30km/h.”

“He was on his way to work and doing the speed limit!”

A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch a person has been charged with dangerous driving causing injury in relation to this incident which allegedly occurred on 3 August 2020.

The person is due to reappear in the Christchurch District Court on 3 December 2020.

She said the alleged offender was initially summoned to appear on the charge of dangerous driving causing injury but was not arrested.
