Police are investigating a string of incidents across Christchurch and Rolleston involving stolen cars, a vehicle fire, and two burglaries.

Senior Sergeant Hamish Keer-Keer told Chris Lynch Media police received a report at around 2.40pm that someone had been seen trying to break into a van on Lady Isaac Drive in Rolleston.

“As officers arrived, two cars were seen leaving the area. Both were subsequently confirmed to be stolen cars,” Keer-Keer said.

He said one of the cars was set on fire on Branston Street in Hornby around 45 minutes later.

At around 3.20am, police were advised of a burglary at a commercial property on Halswell Junction Road.

“At this stage it has not been confirmed whether this incident was linked to the same offender/s,” Keer-Keer said.

A bar on Withells Street in Avonhead was burgled at around 4am.

Keer-Keer said one of the cars used by the offenders on Lady Isaac Drive earlier in the night was seen leaving the area immediately after.

There were no pursuits of the cars involved at any time.

“Enquiries are under way to identify and locate those involved,” Keer-Keer said.
