Christchurch police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a 16 year old boy in Fendalton.

At 10.30pm last night police responded to a report of a serious assault at a house on Medbury Terrace.

Three teenagers were found with serious injuries. It’s believed they had been stabbed.

All three were rushed to the hospital, but a 16-year-old young boy later died.

Two others remain in hospital in a stable condition.

Detective Inspector Michael Ford said a homicide investigation, including a scene examination to determine what occurred and who is responsible, is underway.

“We are aware there were a large number of people on Medbury Terrace during the course of the evening.”

He said “we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, and can assist with our inquiries, to come forward and speak to us.”

“He’s been stabbed” neighbour describes the chaotic scenes

A resident who lives near the house where the stabbing took place described hearing loud screams before emergency services arrived.

He told Chris Lynch a large party was happening with mainly high school students.

“I was watching for about 30 minutes before hearing some screaming and a girl yell “call an ambulance.”

“Soon after I heard “he’s been stabbed”.

Lots of people were running up and down the street.

He said two cars arrived a short time later and picked up people from the party before police arrived “which was suspicious.”

“Police came soon after and blocked both ends of the street. Ambulances and paramedics arrived, they were running around.”

The resident said police escorted all the party-goers out the street.

“They cordoned off the street and all houses. A policeman came to my house and informed us of what happened.”

He said police searched his property looking for weapons and the offenders.

Police were still at the scene this morning shining lights at the ground, at bushes and trees looking for anything suspicious he said.
