Emergency services are responding to a serious two vehicle crash in Northwood, Christchurch.

Police said they were called to the crash on Johns Road at about 4.15pm.

Initial indications suggest there may be serious injuries.

The road has been closed and diversions are in place.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
