Canterbury police have confirmed to chrislynchmedia.com they are investigating distressing footage of a man violently attacking a dog in Rolleston.

Security footage from a Rolleston property shows the man striking and kicking his dog repeatedly, leaving the animal yelping and whimpering in pain.

The incident occurred on Park Lane near Levi Park on Thursday night.

Multiple people have come forward with the suspect’s name.

The homeowner who captured the footage told chrislynchmedia.com she had contacted the SPCA with the evidence.

“I’ve now provided all the information to the SPCA so they can follow up. It was not a pleasant thing to see on my cameras this morning,” she said.

A police spokeswoman said a report was filed yesterday afternoon about the man seen in the footage from 9 January.

Police confirmed they are following lines of inquiry to identify him.

A local resident claimed they had seen the same man abusing the dog previously and had attempted to report it to police, but said no action was taken at the time.

On Friday afternoon, SPCA’s headquarters said they had not yet been informed of the complaint, as it was likely still being processed by their local office.

A spokesperson said that when the complaint reaches them, they will “certainly commence an investigation.”
