Respected radio broadcaster and voice actor Kim Blair has died after a short and aggressive battle with cancer.

Blair passed away peacefully at home on 28 October, surrounded by his wife Mary, his son Tom, his mother Jacki, and his brother Mark.

He was diagnosed with colon cancer just five months ago.

Friends described him as a warm, funny, and generous man who left an enduring mark on the Australasian broadcasting and voice-over industry.

Blair’s career spanned three decades across radio stations in Australia and New Zealand, where he worked as a presenter, programmer, and mentor to young broadcasters.

Former SCA and Triple M colleague Andrew Very said Kim was one of the funniest, dry-witted blokes you could ever meet.. the kind of person who could fill a room with laughter using just a few perfectly timed words.

“His mellifluous voice seemed made for radio, instantly recognisable and warm, and he brought that same presence and authenticity to every role he took on.

“Kim’s love for the industry was unwavering. From his early beginnings in regional WA to his time on-air in capital city markets, and later as a content director and general manager, he gave everything to the craft he adored. Even in his final days, that passion never dimmed,  he was still showing a keen interest in the media landscape, hoping to be back amongst it soon.

Kim will be remembered not just for his talent, but for his humour, his kindness, and the way he made everyone around him feel. He was a loving family man and his world ultimately revolved around his beautiful wife and young son.”

After establishing himself in Australian radio, Blair moved to New Zealand, where he became a familiar voice and a respected leader in the industry.

He worked with both MediaWorks and NZME, helping shape station programming and guiding on-air talent.

Away from the studio, he built a successful voice-over career from his Auckland base, voicing national television campaigns, documentaries, and corporate productions across Australasia.

In 2022, Blair was recognised as a finalist in the New Zealand Radio Awards.

A Givealittle page has been created to support his family following his death.

The fundraiser, established with the blessing of his wife Mary, describes Blair as “an amazing husband and father” who faced his illness “in a quiet, private and dignified way.”

“Kim was such a significant part of many lives from all over the globe and many people have reached out asking how they can offer help,” the page says. “The gift of time and removing some of the financial pressure will be invaluable for Mary and Tom.”

Since launching, the page has raised nearly $10,000 from more than 100 donors.
