Over 2000 young people from the region are currently in training for their very own multi-sport event — the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon.

This year’s event is a sell-out with 2170 children aged 6-15 years registered to give the swimming, biking and running event a go.

Christchurch local, Black Fern and one of this year’s Weet-Bix Ambassadors Alana Bremner will be attending the event along with a number of other sporting celebs who will be awarding the kids their champions medal as they cross the finish line.

Bremner completed several of the TRYathlons as a kid and is looking forward to encouraging the next generation of athletes.

“I remember feeling such a huge sense of pride running over the finish line with a big smile on my face. Some of my favourite childhood memories are participating in the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlons. We loved them so much that we went back year after year – five times over!” Bremner said.

“We want all Kiwi kids to feel confident, no matter their ability or setbacks. It’s all about getting involved, giving it a go and feeling like a winner no matter what,” she said.

Nearly half a million Kiwi kids have completed the TRYathlon since it began in 1992 with just 500 entrants. Upwards of 19,000 young ones across New Zealand are expected to give it a TRY this season alone.

The TRYathlon caters to all fitness levels and experience. TRYathletes will swim, bike and run their way around age-specific lengths of the course.

This year’s event is being held on Sunday 25 February at Jellie Park, Burnside.
