Power crews were working across Selwyn this morning to restore electricity to several rural areas affected by overnight outages.

Properties in Killinchy, Southbridge, Ladbrooks, and Springston remained without power, with full restoration expected by late afternoon. Around 300 homes in Brookside, Doyleston, and Irwell were earlier affected, but most had been reconnected by 7.30am.

Orion said the outages followed strong winds overnight, with lines crews prioritising safety and urging residents to stay clear of any downed or damaged power lines.

People were advised to report hazards by calling 0800 363 9898 or using the Snap Send Solve app.
