Christchurch police are investigating an alleged assault outside Christchurch Hospital’s Emergency Department.

Witnesses told chrislynchmedia.com they saw multiple police officers, including armed officers, in the car park just after 8pm on Thursday.

One witness said officers had their firearms drawn towards a vehicle.

Another witness said at least 10 patrol cars arrived at the scene.

A police spokesperson confirmed police had received a report of an assault. There were no reports of injuries and police were making enquiries.

Health New Zealand said ” we have nothing to add at this time.”
