Christchurch police are still hunting for an offender who crashed a stolen car into a property in Burnside last night.

A police spokeswoman said police were notified at 8.25pm that a car had crashed into a fence and tree on Ambleside Drive, between Witbrock Crescent and San Rafael Place.

The driver fled on foot following the crash, the spokeswoman said.

A police dog unit was deployed, but the offender was not located.

A local resident said the stolen car crashed across the road from his house.

“The guy was on something. He tried backing the car out several times but was well and truly stuck.

“He did a runner, then went back to the car to grab a face bandana before taking off again.”
