A person has died in a workplace accident in Christchurch.

Emergency services were notified about the incident at United Steel on McAlpine Street in Wigram just after 2pm.

A St John spokesman referred further queries to police.

A WorkSafe spokesperson said they’re investigating this afternoon’s workplace fatality in Wigram.

“As the matter is now under investigation we are unable to provide any further comment.”
